For many years, digital discovery was synonymous with Google Search. If you needed to find something, whether a product, a service, or a solution to a problem, you just went on Google and typed out your search query.
All of this is about to change.
There are more ways of discovering brands now than ever before. You ask ChatGPT for suggestions, go through Google AI Overviews before landing on any website, compare information you found on Perplexity, watch YouTube tutorials, browse LinkedIn for expert opinions and often you end up on Reddit verifying all that you've discovered.
Of course, Google is still an essential component of all of that but not the entire process anymore.
It has taken me an entire year to realize how true this is. While building Simply Sansu, writing articles, answering journalists' questions and working on AI SEO, I understood that the future of search is actually the future of digital discovery.
Discovery Happens Everywhere
Firms often ask how to get high rankings on Google.
It is an important question, but I believe there is a better one.
How do people discover your business?
And that answer is no longer just "Google."
You could be introduced to a company via a LinkedIn post. Your company may be quoted by an article from a journalist. Your services can be found through ChatGPT, where they may come to your website, your blog, and finally your social channels.
All of these channels matter.
Discovery is now an ecosystem.
Your Website Is Still Your Strongest Asset
In all the focus being put into AI search, it's natural to assume websites are becoming obsolete.
I don't agree.
Your website will always be the only digital property that belongs to you. Social media platforms can change their algorithms. AI platforms can grow and improve. Search engines add new functionalities.
It's your website where your knowledge is showcased.
One of the many reasons I've spent so much time developing Simply Sansu is because everything I did was to develop a website that deserves to be discovered.
AI still needs trustworthy sources of information.
And your website must be one of them.
Authority Matters More Than Ever
One of the most noticeable shifts has been the shift in authority from your own website.
Today search engines and AI algorithms not only evaluate your content but also evaluate how others perceive your site.
Do they cite you in their writing?
Do they refer to you as an expert in their industry?
Are they referencing any of your works?
Do they mention your brand name?
All of this happens due to the significance of Digital PR in my marketing approach.
Any time I respond to a journalist request, I am writing a guest post or sharing my expertise; I do not just try to earn another backlink. I try to establish trust.
Helpful Content Wins
AI has made content publishing easy.
On the flip side, it has made the process of creating generic content even easier.
I see literally thousands of articles that are just rephrasing what has been said in the past.
This isn't where the future of digital discovery lies.
What readers are looking for, as well as what AI will look for in the future, is something much more valuable.
They need the experience of the author.
They need insights.
They need examples from the author, who has tried all this before.
That is why all the articles that I write at Simply Sansu are based on something I have tried, implemented or tested myself, whether it was making my website perform better, testing the AI SEO or building Digital PR campaigns.
One more thing I like about being an author is that I get to bring other people with experience into the discussion.
AI Search Rewards Strong Foundations
There is a misconception that AI SEO calls for a totally new approach.
I do not think so.
The companies that win with AI SEO are generally those that have been practicing SEO best practices all along.
They have fast loading websites.
They have organized content.
They have good technical SEO.
They show expertise.
They have a recognizable brand.
AI SEO hasn't changed the game.
It has only raised the bar.
Think Beyond Rankings
Success used to be defined by ranking and organic search traffic.
Those are still important, but they don't define the entire picture anymore.
Today, I also think about questions like these:
- Am I mentioned by any AIs in my content?
- Am I establishing myself as an authority in my field?
- Are journalists reaching out for comment?
- Is there multiple ways of finding Simply Sansu?
- Does my content answer a real question better than other content?
That's how I'm shaping my approach to content today.
As visibility isn't anymore limited to the top 10 blue links on Google.
The Future Belongs to Discoverable Brands
Google isn't going anywhere.
Websites aren't going anywhere.
AI isn't going to replace marketing.
But what I truly believe is that businesses should start thinking of SEO differently.
Technical SEO, content marketing, Digital PR, personal branding, social media, guest posting, and AI search optimization all serve the same purpose—making your business more visible.
This is the future of digital discovery.
Not ranking in one place.
Visibility in multiple places.
The one lesson I've learned over the course of last year is: do not optimize solely for search engines. Create an amazing brand worth getting noticed no matter where your audience searches for information.
Because in the next years, the companies who will succeed won't be those with the best rankings.
They'll be the companies known and recommended by people and AI.
